eBay Seller Starting Shopify Store

Why I’m Expanding Fab Thrifts Beyond eBay

Read more: Reseller Blog

I’ve been selling on eBay for a long time, and I’ll say this upfront: I’m grateful for it. eBay taught me a lot from how to photograph an item to how to write a good description, ship efficiently, and communicate with customers. It’s still one of my main sales channels, and it continues to connect me with incredible buyers who value quality pre-loved pieces.
But after years of selling there, I started feeling the limits of what I could share. I wanted a place to tell the stories behind each find — how I sourced it, restored it, or styled it — and create an experience that felt more personal. That’s where Shopify comes in.
Building my own website through Fab Thrifts is my way of broadening, not replacing, what I already do on eBay. It’s about growing my audience and inviting people to shop directly if they prefer that experience — with fewer platform fees and a closer connection to me as the seller.
I’m not leaving eBay; I’m building alongside it. My goal is to meet customers wherever they are — whether they find me through eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, or directly at FabThrifts.com. Each channel has its own rhythm and community, and I’m learning to blend them together in a way that feels natural and transparent.
The journey has been equal parts exciting and humbling. I’m still figuring out website design, SEO, marketing, and all the tech details that come with running an independent store. Some days everything clicks; other days I’m googling how to fix something at midnight.
And now there’s a new twist — AI. Shopify recently teamed up with OpenAI to bring shopping directly into ChatGPT, which means that someday you could ask me about a bag or pair of shoes and purchase it right in the conversation. You can read more about that here: Shopify & OpenAI Bring Commerce to ChatGPT{:target=”_blank”}.
This is the future I want to explore — one where resale feels conversational, personal, and direct. I’ll keep learning, testing, and sharing the process here, honestly and in real time — the good, the bad, and the “I broke something again” moments.
If you’ve ever thought about taking your reselling beyond a single platform, maybe my journey will help you see it’s possible — and that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
